About the Suzuki Method

The method

Developed by the Japanese violinist and educator Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, the philosophy behind the method is that we learn to play an instrument as we learned our native language (the "mother tongue" aproach) -  through  listening, imitation, repetition and gameplay.  In a learning environment that fosters respect and a positive atmosphere, students learn, not only, how to play their instrument, but they also develop aural skils,  improve their memory, cultivate concentration, and enhance their self-esteem.

When to start

While the recommended starting age is 3 years old,  younger children that have a developed fine motor skills can also start taking lessons.  It should be noted that the Suzuki Method is thought so that children can learn at their own pace and is not exclusive to a particular age group. Saying that, the earlier we start the better but any person with interest and will is welcome to start no matter their age.

Parents

Parents are key for their children musical development. They will become the teacher at home. Taking notes and through the teacher's guideness, they will be the children's ears, eyes and memory at home. Parents are not expected to have any previous musical education. Just will to learn and to help their kids. Taking Suzuki lessons can be a wonderful way to bond with your children!

Lessons

Students will have a weekly private lesson and a group lesson every two weeks. Group Class is a great place for students to learn and get motivation from each other. It is also the space to learn theory, music reading, new songs, ensemble playing as well as develope as well-rounded human beings. Plus group lessons are fun and students become part of a group. This together with the possibility to play concerts, keeps them engaged and highly motivated.
